Walk right back to me this minute...
29/04/2024 (Staff Post - Alan McNiven )
Yesterday, I had the pleasure of participating in the Kiltwalk in Glasgow alongside colleagues and friends from Engage Renfrewshire. With the sun shining bright, it was a brilliant experience, with the atmosphere along the route vibrant and filled with various attractions that kept us motivated. From the official rest stations, charity mascots and bagpipers to local residents offering treats and cheers, there was no shortage of encouragement. I even spotted a couple of "doggie rest stations" to ensure our furry companions stayed hydrated during the walk.
The Kiltwalk draws in massive crowds, and the amazing organisation deserves huge praise. Beyond the logistical excellence, the event of course ultimately contributes to a wide range of social impacts by raising significant funds for charities. Additionally - despite the inevitable sore knees and hips! - participating in such events undoubtedly offers valuable health benefits. Yet, beyond the excellent causes and brilliant health perks, I must emphasise the sheer enjoyment of the day. Of course, my opinion may be influenced by the glorious weather we were blessed with. Reflecting on the dreary rain outside today, I realise my experience might have been different had the walk taken place under these conditions. Perhaps my pace would have been quicker, though!
Nevertheless, it was a day filled with countless steps and laughs - thanks to everyone at the Kiltwalk team for a grand day!
All the best
Alan
