Meet My Baby and I, a brand new community initiative providing support, information, and empowerment to women from ethnically diverse backgrounds across Renfrewshire. They offer tailored services for new mothers, helping them access the information, networks, and opportunities they need to build confidence, independence, and hope. From welfare advice to peer support and skills development, My Baby and I aims to ensure every woman feels seen, supported, and valued.

Read on to find out their story:

There are moments in life that incise themselves onto your soul, defining who you are and shaping the path you're meant to walk. For me, one such moment wasn't a single event, but a period of profound vulnerability.

I had just arrived in the UK, a hopeful student with a mind full of dreams, but a reality that quickly presented its harsh edges. No job, dwindling savings, and the overwhelming responsibility of a tiny, precious life depending solely on me. Every day felt like navigating a dense fog, each step uncertain. The joy of motherhood, which should have been pure and unadulterated, was often overshadowed by a desperate worry for the future. I felt lost, like a tiny boat tossed in a vast, unpredictable ocean.

But even in those darkest hours, glimmers of light pierced through. They came in the form of unexpected kindness – a gifted pram and car seat, a box of baby wipes and a friend’s gentle ear. They came in the form of advice, freely given and desperately needed, about navigating the job market, understanding the local system, and simply how to keep going. Every piece of guidance, every small gift, every word of encouragement wasn't just helpful; it was a lifeline.

These gestures reminded me that support, no matter how small, can make a lasting difference. It was from this experience that My Baby and I was born - a vision to ensure that no woman has to walk her journey alone.

My Baby and I is a community initiative created to provide support, information, and empowerment to women, especially those from ethnically diverse backgrounds, across Glasgow and Renfrewshire.

We understand the challenges that come with building a new life, balancing motherhood, studies, or a career, and finding a sense of belonging. That’s why we are here to walk beside you, offering guidance, connection, and community.

What We Do:

Supporting Women and Mothers

We offer tailored services for new mothers, helping them access the information, networks, and opportunities they need to build confidence, independence, and hope. From welfare advice to signposting essential resources, we ensure every woman feels seen, supported, and valued.

Empowering Through Guidance and Growth

Through career guidance, mentoring, and skills development workshops, we help women and individuals make informed choices and take practical steps toward personal and professional growth.

Creating Spaces for Connection

Our peer support and empowerment activities bring people together to share stories, learn from one another, and grow stronger as a community. We believe that when women lift each other up, the whole community thrives.

Promoting Inclusivity and Belonging

Although our focus began with women and mothers, My Baby and I welcomes everyone, regardless of gender, parenthood, or background, who needs support in finding a job, empowerment, or community connection. Inclusivity is at the heart of what we do.

At My Baby and I, we’re not just building a support network; we’re building a family of resilience, hope, and shared purpose.

Together, we can create a community where every woman and family feels empowered, connected, and confident to thrive.
