Walk with me Suzy Lee, Through the park and by the tree...

Last weekend, I had the pleasure of attending Wellbeing in the Park, (organised by the brilliant Renfrewshire Anti Stigma Alliance) in Paisley's beautiful Fountain Gardens, as part of Mental Health Awareness Week. This free community event was more than just a gathering—it was a celebration of connection, compassion, and collective care.

Centred around the themes of wellbeing, inclusion, and support, the event brought together people of all ages to enjoy everything from a silent disco and bouncy castle to face painting and interactive wellbeing activities. Stalls from OneRen, RASA, RAMH, See Me Scotland, Pachedu, Police Scotland, Active Communities, Star Project, You Matter Always, and many others offered valuable information and support, while the ever-popular summer 'Walk A Mile' provided an easy way for attendees to connect in conversation and gentle exercise.

Live performances from The Well Happy Band, Dirty Feet Dance Company, Paisley Opera, and the brilliant Rock Choir lifted spirits and filled the park with energy and joy.

Events like this are good for the soul. They create safe and uplifting spaces where people can come together, share stories, and strengthen community bonds. They remind us of the healing power of being outdoors, engaging with others, and feeling seen and supported.

In my opinion they’re also vital for civic society—offering a glimpse of what happens when communities are empowered, organisations collaborate, and public spaces are used to foster wellbeing and social connection. In these shared moments, we see the values of our fairer, healthier, compassionate communities brought to life.

It’s at these types of events, events that are joyful and filled with a sense of solidarity that trust is built, stigma is challenged, and the foundations of collective wellbeing are laid. And it was sunny…which always helps!

And heh, the weather may change—but hanging out with each other? That’s the real balm.

Speak soon – all the best.
