On an island in the sun, we'll be playing and having fun…

When I began this wee thought process, I had to check something rather important… can you still buy Tooty Frooties? You know the ones — chewy, fruit flavoured centres with a crunchy shell. Turns out you can’t. They popped into my head because I once got a Tooty Frootie Easter egg when I was a lad, and when I think of Easter I think of chocolate… yup. I also think of daffodils, rabbits and, of course, hot cross buns. Funny how everything seems to come back to food with me.

Spring has definitely sprung, and I’d suggest that simply getting out and about in a bit of daylight does wonders for everyone’s wellbeing. Winter’s behind us now, and we can look forward to days that are longer, brighter and — fingers crossed — a wee bit sunnier. I’m fairly basic in that respect: the more time I spend outdoors, the happier I tend to be. Any excuse and I’m out.

I’ve mentioned before my fondness for running (slowly), and when I can, I’ll pull on the trainers and amble — sloth like rather than bunny like — across any open space that’ll have me. Walking does the trick too. I’ll take it whenever I get the chance. I even volunteer to put the bins out...

So, with that ringing personal endorsement of fresh air and the great outdoors, I’ll leave you with an introduction to a new local fund in Renfrewshire — the SURE Fund. SURE stands for Support. Understand. Recover. Empower and it's what we hope this fund will be all about. We’re especially keen to hear about ideas that give people the chance to build new skills, try something different, volunteer, or simply connect with others. We’re also interested in creative approaches that engage young people, challenge stigma, and open up positive, honest conversations about alcohol and drugs.
