Developing Volunteer Practice
This three-day course, split over six weeks, will cover everything you need to know about involving volunteers, from thinking about involving volunteers to creating positive endings for volunteers.
What does the course cover:
You will be challenged to think what is needed to support a volunteer’s volunteering journey, gain an understanding of what good practice looks like in line with the volunteer quality standards, and how to ensure volunteers have a great volunteer experience.
This course will cover planning for involving volunteers, discussing resources, policies, and procedures required, how to develop volunteer roles, attracting volunteers to your organisation and volunteer inductions. We will also discuss how to make a difference through supporting volunteers, managing challenging situations, reward, recognition and evaluating your volunteer programme.
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
Explain what volunteering is and the difference it can make to people’s lives and the work of your organisation.
- Communicate why you involve volunteers and the benefits of volunteering.
- Understand the resources your organisation will need to commit to volunteering.
- Identify the need for and create effective policies and procedures for supporting volunteering.
- Create attractive volunteering opportunities.
- Understand how to manage difficult situations.
- Understand how to value and evaluate volunteers.
Who is it aimed at:
This course is aimed at people who are new to supporting volunteers or perhaps individuals that would like to refresh their skills and knowledge. The course is suitable for both volunteers and paid staff members with responsibility for supporting volunteers.
