Young Lives Matter

Young Lives Matter operates with the primary goal of supporting the mental, emotional, and social well-being of young people, particularly those of high school age, through early intervention, guidance, and developmental support. The charity's key activities include: School and Community-Based Counselling and Support Workshops. The charity's trained facilitators and counsellors will visit schools, colleges, and other educational or youth-focused settings to deliver structured counselling and personal development workshops.

Sessions will be delivered in both group formats and individual (one-to-one) sessions, depending on the needs of participants and in agreement with school staff or designated safeguarding leads. Group workshops will focus on common challenges faced by young people, such as low self-esteem, peer pressure, anxiety, social media influences, bullying, and difficulties balancing home and school life.

One-to-one sessions will provide personalised support to young people who may require private, tailored advice and guidance for ongoing or complex emotional and social issues.

Personal Development and Resilience Programmes. Each workshop will be designed to build confidence, strengthen coping strategies, and enhance emotional literacy, helping pupils recognise and manage their emotions in healthy ways. Activities and discussions will encourage young people to share experiences, learn practical mental health coping tools, and develop problem-solving and communication skills. Programmes will incorporate goal-setting and reflective exercises aimed at helping students identify their strengths, improve motivation, and increase their likelihood of achieving educational and personal success.

Partnership Working with Schools and Community Organisations. Young Lives Matter will collaborate with schools, teachers, pastoral care teams, and community youth organisations to identify young people who would benefit most from support. Feedback and ongoing communication with school staff will ensure workshops align with existing pastoral and educational frameworks, complementing current support services rather than duplicating them. The charity will also provide follow-up materials, resources, and referral guidance for further support where appropriate.

Focus on Educational Engagement and Attendance. A key outcome of the charity's interventions is to improve school attendance and academic engagement by addressing underlying emotional and social barriers to learning. By equipping pupils with enhanced coping mechanisms and greater self-confidence, the programme aims to reduce absenteeism, improve concentration in class, and promote a more positive attitude toward school life.

Support for Wider Community Well-being. The charity recognises that the impact of these programmes extends beyond the individual. As young people develop stronger emotional resilience and better decision making skills, they are more likely to have positive relationships within their families, peer groups, and communities. This in turn contributes to a healthier, more cohesive community environment, in which young people feel valued, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential.

Beneficiaries: The direct beneficiaries are pupils aged approximately 11–18 years old (secondary and sixth form age group) across schools and educational institutions. Indirect beneficiaries include families, teachers, and the wider community who will experience the positive social and behavioural outcomes that result from improved youth mental health and engagement.

Charitable Benefit: These activities directly further the charity's object of advancing the mental and emotional well-being of young people, relieving distress, and advancing education. By improving resilience, attendance, and outlook, the programme contributes clearly to identifiable public benefits, aligning with recognised charitable purposes under the Charities Act 2011.
