OSCR - Trustee Information

From 30 June 2025, OSCR began collecting charity trustee information through OSCR Online.

Any charity completing a new online annual return created on or after 30 June 2025, will be required to include charity trustee information as part of the submission. While this requirement does not apply to online annual returns created before 30 June 2025, we’d like to strongly encourage all Scottish charities to provide charity trustee details as soon as possible to ensure their compliance with the new legislation.

Charities must submit the following details for each charity trustee:

  • Full name
  • Home address
  • Email address
  • Telephone number
  • Date of birth
  • Date of appointment

This data will support OSCR’s regulatory work, and from early 2026, the names of charity trustees will be published on the Scottish Charity Register to promote transparency and strengthen public trust in the sector.

Governance Wiki

A new digital platform, the Governance Wiki, has been launched to support Scotland’s voluntary sector in navigating governance challenges. Developed by Midlothian Community Action (MCA) in collaboration with third sector experts, the Wiki was unveiled during Small Charities Week 2025 and is now freely accessible to charities, community groups, and voluntary organisations across the country.

The Governance Wiki builds on pre-existing work undertaken by Volunteer Edinburgh on a Volunteer Wiki.

The Governance Wiki is designed to demystify governance and make it more accessible, especially for smaller or volunteer-led organisations that often lack the resources to access traditional training or stay updated with evolving regulations. The platform offers clear, up-to-date guidance on a wide range of topics including legal obligations, board responsibilities, compliance, and risk management.

Funded by the Tyne-Esk Community Led Local Development Fund, the initiative responds to growing demand for practical governance support. The Governance Wiki is a significant step forward in strengthening the governance capacity of Scotland’s third sector.
