Rethinking Raffle Prizes
When choosing prizes for raffles or community events, it’s worth taking a moment to think about how they might be received.
Alcohol often ends up as a default choice for prizes or thank-you gifts, but it’s not always the most inclusive option. Many people in our communities avoid alcohol for health, recovery, cultural, or personal reasons, and prizes that centre on alcohol can unintentionally exclude or make people feel uncomfortable.
During the festive season, we’d like to encouraging groups to think creatively about alternatives that feel welcoming to everyone. Consider prizes that celebrate local businesses, experiences, or wellbeing. Small changes like this can make community events more inclusive, positive, and reflective of the diverse people who take part.
