Funding and Fundraising – A Human Rights and Equalities First Approach

What would work best for you?
CMHWB Fund
The Fund has a strong focus on prevention and early intervention and aims to support grass roots community groups in tackling mental health inequalities and address priority issues of social isolation and loneliness, suicide prevention and tackling poverty and inequality. There will be a continued emphasis in Year 4 on responding to the cost of living crisis and on those facing socio-economic disadvantage.
The overarching aim of the Fund is to:
Support community based initiatives that promote and develop good mental health and wellbeing and/or mitigate and protect against the impact of distress and mental ill health within the adult population (aged 16 or over), with a particular focus on prevention and early intervention.

Animal Welfare
Grants to Support Animal Welfare Charities
Charities registered in the UK that are working to offer sanctuary, rehoming, and rehabilitation to animals in the UK and/or internationally can apply for grants of up to £35,000. Organisations involved with wildlife conservation, the rescue, rehabilitation and (where possible) release of animals are also eligible to apply. The funding supports general running costs or capital purchases. The Trust encourages repeat applications from charities when further financial support might be given if funds allow. The funding is being made available through the Jean Sainsbury Animal Welfare Trust. The next deadline to apply is 10 January 2025. Find out more here
Anti-Racism
Grants Available for Anti-Racism Community Engagement Events
Impact Funding Partners has launched a new fund to support Scottish community groups in participating in the development of the Anti-Racism Observatory of Scotland (AROS). The Anti-Racism Community Engagement Fund provides grants for organisations to hold engagement events or series of events that encourage discussions on systemic racism and how AROS can best serve affected communities. Grants are available under two strands: up to £2,500 under Strand 1; and up to £5,000 under Strand 2. Organisations led by people adversely impacted by racism are particularly welcomed. Impact Funding Partners is managing the fund on behalf of the Scottish Government and the Design Advisory Group. Applications will be accepted until 11 October 2024, with decisions made on a rolling basis. Early applications are advised.

Arts and Music
Funding to Support Arts and Music Projects
The Fidelio Trust is offering grants of up to £5,000 to talented early-career individuals and groups in the arts, particularly music, who couldn't pursue their project or activity without financial support. Individuals and groups must be recommended by an appropriate institution, college, Arts Festival or similar organisation. Funding is available towards special tuition or coaching costs, to participate in external competitions, support for a specially arranged performance, and to receive support for a musical composition. Climate Action
Funding for Community-Led Tree Planting Projects
Schools, community groups, and other non-profit organisations in the UK can apply for grants through the International Tree Foundation’s UK Community Tree Planting Programme. This funding supports community-led projects that enhance biodiversity, increase tree cover, and engage communities in conservation. There are two funding streams: Community Woodlands/Hedging for planting 100-25,000 trees per year with funding up to £1.95 per tree plus maintenance grants, and Community Orchards for planting up to 30 trees per year. Eligible uses include purchasing trees and materials, organising events, and educational activities. The application process has two stages, with final applications due by 12 pm on 13 December 2024. Grants to Increase the Energy Efficiency of Buildings
The Naturesave Trust, an environmental charity, has opened its September-October 2024 funding round, focusing on energy efficiency. This round aims to support charities, voluntary organisations, and businesses in enhancing building energy efficiency to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other pollutants and conserve water. The Trust, which allocates a portion of its income from Naturesave Insurance to environmental and conservation projects across the UK, offers grants of up to £5,000 for eligible initiatives. Funding to Support One Large-Scale Rewilding Project
Rewilding Britain is offering a £100,000 grant to support one large-scale rewilding project in England, Scotland, or Wales. The Rewilding Challenge Fund encourages community groups, farmers, landowners, and land managers to work collaboratively and ‘Think Big, Act Wild’. The fund will nurture innovative and pioneering initiatives which show maximum potential for upscaling rewilding on land and at sea, and demonstrate the extensive economic and social benefits of rewilding to local communities, as well as to biodiversity. Expressions of interest should be submitted by 11 October 2024. Shortlisted projects will be invited to submit a full application. Find out more here
Families
Funding of up to £5,000 Available to Tackle Problems within Families
Registered charities that work to tackle family problems or problems facing one or more of its members can apply for grants of up to £5,000. Funding is available for both capital and revenue grants as well as grants for core funding and projects-based grants. The funding is being made available through the Kelly Family Charitable Trust which actively encourages applications from relatively new organisations to help them become established. The trust prefers to support charities whose income is below £500,000. However, larger charities with pioneering pilot projects will be considered. Grants are awarded twice a year; the next application closing date is 01 March 2025. Find out more here
Heritage
Grants for Regeneration of Heritage Areas
Historic Environment Scotland has reopened its Heritage & Place Programme to support the regeneration of Scottish heritage areas. The programme funds the development and delivery of community-led heritage projects within conservation areas or distinctive heritage sites. While there is no fixed grant amount, Development Phase grants are expected to cover up to 50% of project costs. For the Delivery Phase, grants will typically range from £750,000 to £1.5 million. These grants will support various community-led activities, including repairing and reusing historic assets, traditional skills training, and capacity-building within communities to ensure the long-term care and appreciation of the historic environment. Local authorities, national park authorities, and not-for-profit organisations have until17 January 2025 to submit their expressions of interest. Find out more here
Howwood and Renfrew
Community Partnership Programme to Tackle Food Poverty & Support the Elderly
Community groups and other not for profit organisations within a two mile radius of a One Stop shop can apply for grants of up to £1,000 through the One Stop Community Partnership programme. The programme, administered by the environmental charity Groundwork, will support projects and activities tackling food poverty, supporting the vulnerable, supporting the elderly, supporting low-income families, and supporting a healthier lifestyle. Applications will be welcomed from various organisations, including voluntary/community organisations, registered charities, schools, health bodies, Parish/Town councils, social enterprises, and Community Interest Companies. Schools
Schools Can Apply for £500 of Free Equipment to Deliver Outdoor Learning
Early Years, Infant, Primary and Secondary school settings in England, Scotland and Wales can apply for up to £500 worth of free outdoor resources and two hours of professional outdoor training to deliver outdoor learning and play. The funding is being made available through the Learning through Landscapes’ Local School Nature Grant Programme and is funded by the players of People’s Postcode Lottery. Sports
Funding for the Provision or Upgrading of Sports Facilities
Organisations such as local authorities, schools, area sports associations, sports trusts and charities; etc can apply for funding of up to £200,000 to improve their sports facilities. In areas of high deprivation, the maximum grant can be £250,000 (up to 75% of project costs). Grants are available to help with the provision or upgrading of sports facilities for the public good and that benefit the community. Priority will be given to projects which focus on increasing participation within underrepresented groups in sport such as young people, women and girls, disabled people or those from deprived communities. Women and girls
Corra Foundation - Henry Duncan Grants
Corra’s Henry Duncan Grants 2024 is for women led organisations that support women and girls within their local communities. Henry Duncan Grants will provide grants of £40,000 across five years (£8,000 per year) to charities and registered not for profit organisations with a yearly income of up to £250,000 whose work supports women and girls. In recognition of historic inequity in funding, Corra will commit 50% of this fund budget to support organisations that are led by women from Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic communities. Support for Children Living in Severe Poverty
Grants are now available to support children and young people in the UK experiencing a crisis or emergency. The grants which are made available through the BBC Children in Need Emergency Essentials programme support families with children up to the age of 17 who are living with financial, health and social difficulties by providing items that meet children’s most basic needs, such as kitchen appliances, furniture, baby equipment, beds, clothing, and other items and services that are critical to children’s wellbeing. Applications must come through a registered referral agency supporting the family or young person. The programme is delivered by Family Fund Business Services, and applications can be made at any time. Find out more here

Funder Focus - Esmee Fairbairn

- 23 September, 2pm: We'll have funding managers from Our Natural World and A Fairer Future who will share more about what we're looking for, how we make decisions, and our application process. Find more information including the presentation slides and how to register.
- 14 November, 11am: This webinar will focus on our Creative, Confident Communities priorities. The team will talk through the long-term outcomes we're looking to support, as well as what we won't support. They'll also outline the application process and what we consider when making decisions. All social or environmental organisations and social enterprises in Renfrewshire are invited to join us at the launch and free networking lunch of the Renfrewshire Climate Action Network on Tuesday 24 September, 9:30am - 2pm at the Jacquard Suite, Paisley Town Hall.
