Martin Hill
Public Sector Partner on the Forum & Group Commander with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service
What do you do within the organisation?
I manage the Personnel and Development references for the Fire & Rescue Service within the Renfrewshire Council Area. Additionally, as a uniformed Fire Service senior officer I fulfil several operational command commitments.
Organisation aims/accomplishments & which communities your organisation is empowering
Ultimately, the role of the Scottish Fire & Rescue Service is to work in partnership with communities and with others in the public, private and third sectors on prevention, protection and response to improve the safety and well-being of people throughout Scotland.
We are committed to working with partners and other stakeholders to empower and promote resilience in communities throughout Scotland. Strong integration with local authorities and other partners ensures the work we undertake is aligned to local priority needs.
How can people connect with your organisation?
As part of our transformation agenda, we are always seeking to engage and build effective relationships with communities and partner organisations. I would encourage anyone with any enquiry to either contact their local fire station or to visit www.firescotland.gov.uk.
Who are you outside work?
I am married with a young family and this takes up much of my time outside work. I enjoy a bit of light hillwalking with the kids when I can and as a family we also enjoy a board game or two which usually descends into to full-on bickering!
I enjoy physical fitness and have participated in various marathons and half-marathons over the years. Lately I’ve turned my attention to triathlons and my aim is to participate in a middle-distance triathlon soon. I’ll have to be quick though as I’m certainly slowing with age!
Lastly, I am a long-suffering Arsenal fan and occasionally travel south to watch (endure) football.
