The Bridge
Established November 2011 The Bridge is a Community Centre & Post Office based in the middle of Bridge of Weir.
Post Office - employs 3 part-time staff and we established this to meet local needs following the closure of BoW's main postoffice in May 2011.
Community Centre - we have c40 volunteers who operate a shop which sells Stationery, Greeting Cards, small Cafe, second hand books and DVD's. The Centre is used by various local organisations on a hiring basis for meetings; a few organisations use the Centre free of charge as they provide a community service. We provide opportunities for local Artists and Crafts People to display their and sell their goods. Being in the centre of the village we act as a meeting place for people to drop in on an informal basis to chat to the volunteers and other customers.
Income and surpluses from the Community Centre underpins the shortfall of the Post Office. Unfortunately the Post Office losses will increase but we are hopeful we can sustain overall viability.
Start Up Funding - through a combination of donations by local residents and Renfrewshire Council Leader Grant assistance.
Trustees - we have a board of 10 and meet every 6 weeks to monitor progress.
