Volunteering Focus - 14 August

Happy Wednesday!

It’s the last week of the summer holidays, I don’t know about you but I feel like it has just flown by. If only the cold winter months went as quickly as a Scottish summer does. I hope you had a fantastic time, enjoyed the (brief) periods of sun we were gifted and had a well-deserved rest!

If you haven’t already done so, this would be a great time to arrange some catch ups with your amazing volunteers, check in on how their summers went and touch base on any support they might need over the next quarter. Remember, whilst you are there to support your volunteers, Engage Renfrewshire are here to support you with all things volunteer management and volunteer best practise so give me a shout if there is anything I can support with!

Employability Week 2024

Call out to members of the Volunteer Managers Forum

Renfrewshire’s Employability Week starts on 02 September and Engage Renfrewshire are delighted to present at Invest in Renfrewshire’s Employability week at the Russell Institute. Louise will be presenting to two groups (young people & parents) to promote volunteering as a route to work.

Did volunteering give you skills and experience that helped you into employment? If so, we would like to invite members of the Volunteer Managers Forum along to these presentations (ideally 1 or 2 people for each session) to speak for a couple of minutes about your experience of volunteering as a positive and valuable route to employment. This is also a great opportunity to promote your organisation and the volunteering opportunities you have to the groups.

The presentations take place on the afternoon of 04 September, and if you would like to share your experiences and help promote the benefits of volunteering please get in touch ASAP.

Could you be an Online Safety Ambassador?

Would you like to help people learn how to spot potential online scams, protect themselves online and recognise if someone is at risk of online harm?

Renfrewshire Council, in partnership with Get Safe Online, is looking for volunteers to help educate and support people to become safer online. You just need a basic understanding of the internet, a passion for helping others and we will teach you the rest.

Online safety isn’t about technology it’s about understanding scams and fraud whether it comes in a letter or through an email. Many of us spend more time online these days, and some people feel very isolated, which means there are more opportunities to become a victim of fraud and you can help stop that happening.

Once trained by the experts from Get Safe Online, you will receive a certificate and form part of a network of ‘Online Safety Ambassadors’. You get to choose how you engage with others to get the online safety

Training to become an Online Safety Ambassador will take place via Microsoft Teams on 26/08/2024  (10.00 – 13.00 and 14.00 – 16.00 – you must attend both these slots).

All materials will be provided, as well as ongoing mentoring and support to help you deliver advice effectively and confidently.

If becoming an Online Safety Ambassador seems like the volunteering role for you, block out your diary for the 26 August and follow the link below or scan the QR Code to register your interest by Thursday 15 August 2024.
