Volunteering Focus - 03 July

Happy July wonderful people, I hope most of you are either away chasing the sun, or frantically packing your case to escape what feels like the gloomiest summer on record! This week’s newsletter is jam packed with training opportunities, from Nilbymouth, addressing sectarianism in the workplace, Linking Lives Volunteer confidence training, free EDI community of practise training and not forgetting details about the next Volunteer Managers Forum on 26 August 2024..

I want to say a huge thank you to all members who attended the SCVO ‘Managing Volunteers’ training last week. During the session, the group took a deep dive into responding to and managing the challenges of volunteering today.

Participants took part in a task to name the A-Z of Volunteering, based on their experiences so far. I’m sure you’ll agree the final result really captures how important and valued our volunteers are across Renfrewshire!

We also identified resources that can be used to support volunteering in their organisation – the Volunteering for All Framework, Investing in Volunteers, Volunteer Friendly Award and the Volunteer Charter. More information below.

Nil By Mouth

Nil by Mouth is a registered Scottish Charity existing for the sole purpose of achieving a society free from sectarianism where cultural and religious diversity is respected and celebrated by everyone.

Nil By Mouth are offering Engage Renfrewshire members free Equality & Diversity training sessions with a focus on sectarianism. Our ‘Beyond Religion and Belief’ programme has been developed with the support of the Scottish Government and their investment allows us to deliver these sessions at no cost to your organisation.

Sectarianism in Scotland goes far beyond the football terraces and can be found in our homes, communities and workplaces. Our workshop will look at how employees/volunteers/employers approach issues around religion and belief, freedom of speech, the impact of social media on community and workplace relations (Pause B4 U Post) and the difference between ‘banter’ and ‘bigotry’.

We deliver at your chosen location on an agreed date and all we ask is for a minimum of 10 participants and 90 minutes of your time.

To book your free training session please contact Emma Alexander, Partnership Manager, Nil by Mouth at engagement@nilbymouth.org and simply quote ‘Engage Renfrewshire’.
