Our Minds Our Future

SAMH (Scottish Action for Mental Health) and SYP (Scottish Youth Parliament) have been working with Youth Access and other partners (in Northern Ireland and Wales) on a UK project called Our Minds Our Future.

It’s a five-year long programme, running since 2019, and funded by the National Lottery Community Fund. It aims to put the voices of young people at the centre of mental health service design and delivery.

Youth Access is the lead partner for Our Minds Our Future, and they are a UK wide network of YIACS (Youth Information, Advice and Counselling Services), advocating with and for members and young people to influence national policy; providing opportunities for collaboration between services; disseminating evidence, training and guidance; and empowering young people to campaign for improved services and systems.

Social Media and Self-Harm Working Group - Report

NHS GGC Report

Social Media and Self-Harm Working Group – “It’s not safe and consistent”: An exploration of social media and self-harm among young people

The research covered 16-23 year olds and was a Renfrewshire Project ‘Youth Interventions’ who took part in the research/focus groups. As you can see there is an online session to discuss the findings – detail below.

“It’s not safe and consistent”: An exploration of social media and self-harm among young people.

An exploratory project was undertaken by the Mental Health Improvement Team and Specialist Children's Services at NHSGGC in partnership with Youth Interventions investigating the lived experience of young people aged 16-23 who self-harm about their online lives.

The project provides novel insights into the complex and nuanced relationship between social media use and self-harm among young people. A brief online event will be held on Wednesday 27 March, 2.00-3.00 pm, via MS Teams to discuss the findings. If you would like to sign up for the event, please email ggc.mhead@ggc.scot.nhs.uk. The report can also be downloaded from the Mental Health Improvement Team’s website

Embedding the Principles of The Promise

As part of Holyrood Insight’s Keeping The Promise: Next Steps Digital Conference, Children in Scotland’s Head of Policy, Projects and Participation, David Mackay, was invited to talk about how we are embedding the principles of The Promise through our work.

For those who missed the conference, here, David explores how our rights-based policy work, training and learning opportunities, support services, and participation projects are leading the way for change.
