West partnership Ambassadors
An exciting opportunity has come up within Renfrewshire Council’s Youth Services – we are looking for dynamic and confident young people to be involved in a new project. As part of the West Partnership, we are looking to recruit 4 ambassadors from across Renfrewshire who are in S3 or above. The project will see the ambassadors connect with 7 groups of ambassadors from other local authorities across the West Partnership, they will gain key skills, experiences, and knowledge.
The ambassadors will be working towards their Participatory Democracy Certificate (PDC) which is a youth award that provides SCQF level accreditation to young people involved in group decision-making. It gives participants the opportunity to acknowledge and develop their communication, decision-making and negotiation skills in the context of democratic engagement. The Participative Democracy Certificate is worth 2 Credits at SCQF Level 5 (equivalent to National 5 or SVQ 2) and constitutes 20 hours of learning.
Following this model, the ambassadors will undertake training to gain valuable skills looking into Research Methods, Leadership, Teamwork, and Communication. Using these skills, they will progress onto part 2 which will see them do a piece of research within the local community about an issue they are interested in. This could be anything from homelessness to recycling, part 3 is where they can put their research into action and create a project based on this for example, a sleepout to raise awareness of homelessness or making a stall to give out sustainable cutlery and face pads. Throughout this process we will be asking young people to reflect critically on what they have been doing and what they are gaining from it, the project could allow the group affect positive change within the local community.
If you have any young people who might be interested in this fantastic opportunity, please reply to youth@renfrewshire.gov.uk with their contact details by the 20 September 2023 and we can get them involved!
