State of Caring Survey

The annual State of Caring survey is the most extensive survey into carers’ experiences in the UK. With an upcoming new UK Government, we want to make sure that carers in Scotland and throughout the rest of UK have their say - there has never been a more important time to make sure that carers have a high profile and get concrete change.

This year, the survey covers issues and areas that carers have told us that matter to them. It may take around 20-30 minutes to complete so please set aside some time and answer as many questions as you can. Even if you are unable to finish, the questions you do answer will help us advocate for carers.

The survey closes on 11 August 2024.

Your Good Guide to Credit

Please find attached “Your Good Guide to Credit” which has been produced by Renfrewshire Affordable Credit Alliance (RACA), Engage Renfrewshire, Stop £oan Sharks and Renfrewshire Council.

This is a fantastic resource which provides important information for anyone who has ever borrowed money or is thinking about borrowing money but don’t know where to start.  It also contains information on Social Tariffs, scams and fraud towards the end of the document.

Social Innovation Challenge 2024

Do you know of a social enterprise that is tackling the deep-rooted inequalities affecting people’s health and wellbeing in innovative ways? Or perhaps an individual with a creative idea for a solution of this kind?

In that case, the 2024 edition of the Social Innovation Challenge might just be the right opportunity for them. This year, the theme for this funding and support programme is:  breaking barriers to better health and wellbeing.

About the Social Innovation Challenge
The Social Innovation Challenge (SIC) is a grant-funding and support programme that seeks innovative solutions to the most pressing challenges of our times.
The winner will receive a £50,000 grant and tailored support. The grant can be used to help with start-up fees, research and development, salaries and other essential costs, such as rent or buying critical equipment. In addition, all finalists receive bespoke signposting or introductions to alternative sources of funding or support.

Can you help us share the news?
If you would like to support us in promoting this opportunity across Scotland, to ensure that we reach our most innovative and ambitious social entrepreneurs, you can also download our communications pack, which contains useful text for various social media platforms.

Alternatively, please find all the key information below:
2024 Theme: breaking barriers to better health and wellbeing. This edition looks to support innovative social enterprise solutions that address the core inequalities that negatively impact on the health and wellbeing of people in Scotland.

We are not looking for solutions that are simply delivering health or wellbeing services.  Instead, we want to see evidence that the projects can create tangible, long-term impact by addressing the underlying issues that affect health and wellbeing: housing, education, employment, income, social connections, access to green space, nutrition etc.

Applications must be able to evidence:

  • A clear proposal for delivering a solution through a social enterprise
  • Direct social benefit (to be delivered primarily within Scotland)
  • An element of innovation
  • Lived experience or community involvement in the development of the solution
  • Potential for scale or replication
  • Potential for income generation and (eventually) financial sustainability
  • Environmental sustainability

  We accept applications from:

  • Established social enterprises
  • Unincorporated groups or community associations
  • Individuals with an idea for a new project
  • For more info, the full eligibility criteria is available on our website.

Key upcoming dates:

  • Expressions of Interest are currently open. Applicants must submit an Expression of Interest to be able to apply (more info on the process is available on the website).
  • Wednesday 7 August: Expressions of Interest close / Applications open
  • Wednesday 4 September, 1.00pm: Deadline for applications
