Volunteering

Happy Friday to you! I hope we are all enjoying the much deserved warmer weather – it makes such a difference! Now that summer is fast approaching, it has been great to see such an increase of new volunteering opportunities available across Renfrewshire. This week we have opportunities to be gardening in the sunshine at the Finding Your Feet charity hub, supporting with lots of fun and games at the ACCORD Hospice Summer Fair In June, and more.

The countdown is now on for Volunteers Week 2024 – the 40th anniversary. Volunteers’ Week is always a special time of year. It’s so important to take a moment to recognise and thank everyone who gives their time to help out in their communities with charities and other good causes.

“This year Volunteers’ Week is celebrating in style with a revamped brand and new ways to get involved. A fresh look but a consistent message – join us and let’s celebrate volunteers and volunteering, this first week in June.”
- ALAN STEVENSON: CHIEF EXECUTIVE, VOLUNTEER SCOTLAND

They are looking for help with general garden maintenance, weeding, watering, dead heading, planting when required. They have the necessary tools required including gloves.

Key holder and shop assistant - Renfrewshire witch hunt
Renfrewshire Witch Hunt are a volunteer led organisation and their creative hub is based within the Paisley shopping centre, High Street, Paisley. They are open five days a week Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday between 10:00 and 16:00.
Within the hub they have a research area which tells the story of the Witch Hunt in 1697. The unique history of the Renfrewshire Witch Hunt allows us to encompass a wide section of Paisley’s history - from medieval times to present day (right through the industrial revolution of the textile town, all of which feature the main protagonist of the Witch Trials, Christian Shaw, who accused the original 35 people).
They are looking to recruit volunteer Shop Assistants, who can open and close the shop, engage with visitors, book walk and talks and learn about the Renfrewshire Witch Trials. There is also the opportunity to assist in other areas like garden planning, promotion, marketing, events and more.
Perks: Plenty of hot drinks and cakes when available!
