Connected and Caring at Christmas in Renfrewshire

The Caring and Connected at Christmas campaign was delivered during December 2022, coordinated by Renfrewshire Alcohol and Drug Partnership (ADP). A short-life working group formed in order to plan and implement various activities to keep people who use alcohol or drugs, safer during the festive season.

The working group membership included:

  • Renfrewshire ADP support team
  • Renfrewshire Alcohol and Drug Recovery Service
  • Turning Point, Overdose Response Team
  • Intensive Home Treatment Team, Mental Health Services
  • HSCP Communications Team

A table of the activities undertaken is noted here:

Activity

Purpose

Outcome

Care Packages

To encourage uptake of naloxone, keep people safer during winter, and promote a caring message to people at risk.

Packages included hot drinks, food items, gloves, hat, thermal socks, selection box, and various toiletries.

120 care packages were provided to people at risk during December.

Festive opening times resource

To advise people at risk and their families of available services during the festive season.

The resource was provided to individuals and their families via Care Packages, Community engagement events, and ADRS appointments. Approx. 150 copies were distributed.

Community engagement events

To educate the community about available services in Renfrewshire, naloxone, and responding to overdose.

Over 30 individuals in the community connected with information stands, including 5 individuals at risk, or their family members who were provided with Care Packages.

Food parcels

To ensure people in need have access to food parcels during festive bank holiday periods.

Food parcels were distributed by the Overdose Response Team and the Intensive Home Treatment Team. Both services operate 7 day a week, including weekends and bank holidays.

Can you, your group/team/service contribute this year?

We hope to involve more partners this year and we’re looking for your ideas. For those involved, there will be a commitment to be part of the planning group which will meet fortnightly for 30-60 minutes from mid-October to December, as well as implement the work agreed at the planning group.

We are hosting the first planning meeting later on this month.
