An Alternative Burns Supper Trail

RIG Arts are thrilled to introduce a one-off event to Inverclyde An Alternative Burns Supper Trail. This project has been funded by the Scottish Government 2022/23 LAG Co-operation Challenge Fund. This funding allows RIG Arts to host another event to inspire and engage the local community. A fun-filled evening perfect for the whole family that promises to have you proud of your Scottish heritage!

An Alternative Burns Supper Trail takes place on Friday 20th January at Gourock Park from 6pm-8pm and Saturday 21st January 2023 at Lunderston Bay from 4:30pm-6:30pm. The event promises an amazing evening with Scottish-themed events to entertain the masses.

An Alternative Burns Supper is compiled of 4 key elements, the first being the walk/trail, which ensures guests are well prepared for Robert Burn’s night, along the walk trailers will meet performers from Mischief La-Bass that will prepare them for the upcoming celebrations.

The interactive activities will begin with a Haggis hunt, as everyone knows the little haggis is a pesky creature to capture but with the help of our gamekeeper, audiences will stalk the woods with an array of traps, snares and ridiculous tools to help bag themselves a haggis for supper. Participants will be well equipped with all the passed knowledge from our experts such as the creature's natural habitat, known patterns of behaviour and cunning escape techniques, that will ensure the successful entrapment of a wild haggis.

Once we’ve bagged a haggis, participants will move along the trail to be greeted by Tam O Banter who will teach our guests how to secure a hot date with a slice of teuchter tush! Tam will bestow upon our guests the language of love and show them how to pen a verse to really make their dating profile stand out. Before our audience knows it they’ll be fluent in wooing and irresistible to all.

Equipped with the language of love, our audiences will continue on the trail to meet the formidable Nanny Dee, the infamous witch that tormented Tam O Shanter. To rebuild her fragile image before Burn’s Night celebrations demonise her again, Nanny Dee is offering our travellers goodwill potato peeling readings and a mystical potion to ward off the evil eye.

Our weary travellers will end their journey with a makeover to ensure they are in the proper attire for a traditional Burns Supper. Wayne McGak is out and about scouting this year's fashion fashionistas and fashion fails. Wayne will help our audiences find the tartan they should be wearing according to their clan. Wayne will aid you in tracing your ancestry to ensure you show up to the supper in the hottest look from your clan.

Now that our audiences are fully prepared for Burns night, they are welcome to join the campfire celebrations with food and drink from Rambling Recipes and live performances promising to keep everyone entertained. If our guests can’t get enough, there will also be arts and crafts activities to further get into the Burns Night spirit!
