Grants to Help New, Innovative Visual Arts Projects
The Elephant Trust has announced that the next deadline for applications is the 22 January 2023. The Trust offers grants to artists and for new, innovative visual arts projects. It aims to make it possible for artists and those presenting their work to undertake and complete projects when confronted by a lack of funds. The Trust supports projects that develop and improve the knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the fine arts. Priority is given to artists and small organisations and galleries making or producing new work or exhibitions. The Trust normally awards grants of up to £2,000, but larger grants of up to £5,000 may be considered. Find out more here
Rowing Foundation Grants Programme
Grants of between £500 and £4,000 are available to organisations, schools and clubs involved in Rowing to help purchase equipment, such as boats, sculls, ergos, oars and essential safety equipment. The funding is being made available through the Rowing Foundation and preference is given for activities focused on the young or disabled. Grants can cover up to 50% of costs. The next deadline to apply to the Rowing Foundation is the 21 February 2023. Find out more here
Grants for the Planting and Care of Trees, Hedges & Orchards
The Tree Council is inviting applications through the Branching Out fund. Through the Fund, schools, community groups, parish and town councils, and tree warden networks within the UK will be able to apply for grants of between £200 and £2,000 to get communities and young people up to the age of 21 involved in planting and caring for trees, hedges and orchards. The funding will cover the cost of trees, hedges and fruit trees; reasonable costs of non-plastic protection and supports, as well as peat-free compost and/or soil improvers. The closing date for applications has been extended to the 13 January 2023. Find out more here
Funding for Students to Purchase Musical Equipment
Grants of up to £1,500 are available to students in the UK and Ireland who wish to purchase or upgrade musical instruments and equipment to further their music education. The funding, which is being made available through the Universal Music UK Sound Foundation’s Individual Awards programme, will support individuals in full time education, who are either having regular music lessons from a qualified teacher, or are studying music at school/college. To date, the Foundation has awarded grants to over 7,000 schools, individual students and teachers to improve their access to music. The deadline for applications is 1pm on the 18 January 2023. New Fund to Support Large-Scale Rewilding Projects
Rewilding Britain has launched a new fund to tackle the climate crisis, with £100,000 to be awarded to one large-scale rewilding project every year. The Rewilding Challenge Fund encourages community groups, farmers, landowners, and land managers across England, Scotland & Wales to work collaboratively and ‘Think Big, Act Wild’. The Fund will nurture innovative and pioneering initiatives which show maximum potential for upscaling rewilding on land and at sea, and demonstrate the extensive economic and social benefits of rewilding to local communities, as well as to biodiversity. Expressions of interest should be submitted by the 17 January 2023. Shortlisted projects will be invited to submit a full application. Find out more here
Ufi Charitable Trust - VocTech Activate - re-opens in 1 month
The VocTech Activate grant fund supports the development of new ideas that use digital tools and approaches to transform how people gain skills for work. They encourage ideas which have the potential to transform how vocational learning happens, rooted in a real-world understanding of the problems, issues and opportunities in the vocational sector. Projects will need to show how the idea is novel. Funding is to support for the development of early-stage ideas, small scale testing, proof of concept work and the development of strategies to scale once Ufi funding has ended. This could include: - Design, development and prototyping - Refining learning design - Small scale testing with users - Planning a route to market & strategies for scaling - Project Management - Evidencing impact & what works Projects must focus on adult vocational learning in the UK (be aimed at adults aged 16+).There are a series of workshops taking place online to find out more about the fund and help ensure it is right for you. £2.5 million Fund to Help Tackle Growing Household Electrical Waste
£2.5 million in funding is available for projects that make it easier for UK householders to recycle their electrical goods.
The Material Focus’ Electricals Recycling Fund has two funding streams:

Grants of up to £100,000 for projects seeking to grow or develop existing household waste and recycling collection services for small household electricals.

Grants of up to £50,000 for projects that seek to innovate new collection methods.
Applications are sought from a range of organisations including local authorities, waste collection authority areas, contractors, not-for-profits, community sector organisations, producer compliance schemes, and retailers.
Further funding may be considered for projects that demonstrate value for money and significant impact.
The deadline for expressions of interest is the 31 January 2023.

Grants of up to £3,000 Available to Charities Supporting Vulnerable & Disadvantaged People
The Leathersellers Company is seeking applications from small charities that are providing vital services for vulnerable people in deprived communities across the UK.
The Small Grants Programme will award grants of up to £5,000 to organisations with an annual income of less than £200,000. Partnerships are encouraged. The number of applications will be capped and accepted on a first-come, first-served basis e.g. the first 45 applications after each round opens will be able to be submitted.
The Committee will meet regularly to ensure charities receive a decision within a month of submitting their application.
Applications are now open for the 11th January 2023 committee meeting. Submissions will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until the first 45 applications have been received.

Funding to Keep Vulnerable People Warm During the Winter
Grants of up to £25,000 are available to small charities and grassroots organisations working to support vulnerable people and communities struggling with the current cost-of-living crisis and increases in energy costs.
The funding is provided by the Centre for Sustainable Energy, in partnership with SGN through the Safe and Warm Scheme, to support people in areas of Scotland and the South of England where SGN operates who need help staying safe and warm during the winter period, as well as for initiatives addressing carbon monoxide safety and fuel poverty.
SGN is a British gas distribution company. It manages natural and green gas distribution networks in Scotland and in the south of England.
Organisations should register their interest in the first instance.
Applications for the SGN Safe and Warm scheme will be assessed on an ongoing basis.

Grants to Support Children with Additional Needs
Grants are available to support the core costs of registered charities and other not-for-profit organisations delivering projects and activities that support children with additional needs across Scotland.
The funding is made available by the charity Trefoil through their Organisational Grants programme, which supports organisations delivering projects that maximise the independence and capabilities of young people under the age of 25 who have special needs. This can include physical disability, caring obligations, other disadvantage or learning and psycho-social needs.
Trefoil will consider funding for:

projects promoting education, health, and social welfare;
-
team building activities;
-
recreation with an educational element; therapeutic activities not core funded by the statutory authorities;

new development and start up project costs.

Victim Surcharge Fund Reopens for Applications
The Scottish Government’s Victim Surcharge Fund has reopened to applications from organisations that provide direct support to victims of crime and their families.
The Fund, drawn from additional financial levies imposed on all offenders who receive a court fine, will help victim support organisations to cover the costs of short-term and practical support, such as meeting household repair costs that have arisen due to crime, or food, utility or clothing expenses for those escaping domestic abuse.
Over £400,000 in funding has been awarded to organisations since the Fund was launched in 2019.
The deadline for applications is the 09 January 2023.

Funding to Support Challenged & Vulnerable Young People
Grants of up to £2,500 are available to charitable organisations supporting challenged and vulnerable young people under the age of 16 in the UK.
The 7stars Foundation will provide funding for projects which support young living in areas of deprivation and socioeconomic disadvantage who are challenged by abuse or addiction, who are young carers, or who are homeless.
UK-based organisations with an annual turnover of less than £1.5 million can apply for funding for projects that:

Enable young people to have the best start in life and aim high
-
Have a direct impact and respond to a need in an immediate manner
-
Are hosted in geographical areas of deprivation and socioeconomic disadvantage
-
Respond to one or more of the funding priorities of the 7stars Foundation (abuse, addiction, homelessness, and child carers)
-
Address a lack of provision (due to a lack of funding from alternative sources)
-
Provide immediate support, not just in the short-term but with long-term benefits too
Example of support could include recreational trips, mentoring programmes, and counselling sessions.
The next closing date for applications is the 31 December 2022 for February funding review.

Grants of up to £15,000 available to Social Entrepreneurs
Grants plus business support are available to social entrepreneurs that are looking to start or grow an existing social venture. The funding is being made available through the UnLtd the leading provider of support to social entrepreneurs in and around the UK.
The grants are being made available through two funding streams:

Grants of up to £18,000 to grow an existing social enterprise that has been operating between 1 and 4 years.

Grants of up to £8,000 for social businesses not yet established or been running under a year.
UnLtd are committed to providing 50% of their awards to Black, Asian and minority ethnic social entrepreneurs, and/or disabled social entrepreneurs.

Workshops will cover the following:
Session 1 - SCIOs Explained
This workshop provides an in-depth look at the SCIO (Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation), a legal form for charities with a head office in Scotland. The workshop will focus on the key features as well as provide guidance on how you form a new SCIO or convert your existing charity into a SCIO. The workshop will highlight the considerations during the lifecycle of a SCIO from incorporation to wind up. It will also provide practical information about the application to become a SCIO.
Session 2 - Trustee Roles and Responsibilities
This workshop will explore up-to-date Scottish charity legislation regarding trustee’s roles and responsibilities. The workshop will explore some of the other specific duties that apply to Trustees and what makes an effective trustee. The workshop will also set out best practice when it comes to managing your charity.
Session 3 - Charity Trading
This workshop will look the rules on charitable trading, the tax and charity law position, as well as exploring the use of trading subsidiaries in line with charity law and the governance considerations needed. In particular: -
when a charity can, and cannot trade
what is primary purpose trading
key features of a wholly owned, non-charitable trading subsidiary
practical issues around tax, risk management and governance

Scotland’s Mental Health First Aid, (SMHFA) is a national certificated course. It is a 12-hour course delivered over two days.
Monday 20th & Tuesday 21st February 2023 at RAMH HQ 41 Blackstoun Road, Paisley PA1 3LU.

The SMHFA training course is suitable for anyone who has an interest in mental wellbeing. Participants don’t need any qualifications, previous knowledge or experience to complete the course.
The course is facilitated by a qualified SMHFA instructor and quality is continuously monitored by Public Health Scotland.
A range of mental health issues are discussed in this interesting and interactive course through group discussion, videos and case studies.
Participants will learn how to provide initial help to someone experiencing a mental health problem. It looks at dealing with a crisis situation, use of effective interventions and the treatments available.
Five good reasons to attend a SMHFA course:
- Participants will be able to respond appropriately in a mental health crisis.
- Participants will be able to recognise the signs that someone may need help.
- Provide initial help and signpost people to the appropriate professional help.
- Help save a life by learning basic suicide intervention skills.

The Let's Talk About Mental Health training raises awareness of ill-mental health. It will increase understanding of mental health conditions and of our own mental health.
The session promotes positive mental health and aims to help build an environment for people to feel able to talk openly about mental health. The session content includes:

- A basic understanding of mental health conditions.
- Recognise the causes, signs and symptoms.
- What support is available.
- Recovery.

The Invest in Renfrewshire Communities Team host monthly webinars on External Funding Support available for Renfrewshire third sector groups. The focus is on the wider Invest in Renfrewshire programme updates and current grant programmes that are open to third sector groups and the type of support available to groups when completing draft funding applications. The webinar will help assist constituted third sector groups to clearly demonstrate their economic and social benefit, evidence longer term sustainability as well as articulate the impact their proposed projects will have. In addition to this, the monthly webinars cover wider support available from the Invest in Renfrewshire team including further information and updates on the Invest in Employability updates and the Invest in Business Net Zero Business grant.
