Engage Daily Update - 07 April
Happy World Health Day! You can find out more about this year’s theme; building a fairer, healthier world here
Eating a healthy balanced diet is a huge part of sustaining good health.
For that reason, Engage is launching our Renfrewshire Recipes webpage today; it’s a fabulous collection of video recipes from member organisations; meals which are low cost, low fuss, and with basic kitchen utensils.
We’ve also included some information about community food provision in your local area, and some hints and tips from UWS about meal planning and food budgeting.

From April 2021 Engage is getting out with the old (GRANTfinder), and in with the new (a range of resources including Funding Scotland & Grantsonline). We will still be running our 1-2-1 funding searches and will now also be launching a monthly Zoom drop-in funding session. Look out for information on funding sources in our e-alerts and social media, or book a free session now email@example.com
The next Digiren meeting is on Wednesday 21 April at 2pm, you can book your space and event link using the Eventbrite link here
We will be discussing the Digital Citizen work stream and how you can help shape it, exploring some online collaboration tools and also information about online safety from Carol Peters, the Cyber Security Architect within Renfrewshire Council.
Note that the link to access this Teams meeting will be included at the bottom of your confirmation email from Eventbrite once you book a space.

Generations Working Together - European Day of Intergenerational Solidarity
GWT are looking to release a video that celebrates intergenerational connections on the European Day of Intergenerational Solidarity (on the 29 April) from GWT that shows two generations connecting online. If you are currently hosting any intergenerational connections, they need your help.
They would like the two generations to ask each other questions, for example:
- Do you have any other friends from my generation?
- What are your hobbies?
- What is your favourite food?
If they have already been connected they can also talk about the benefit of the intergenerational connection during the last year.
The easiest way to do this is probably to record through a video programme like zoom, and they are happy to help set this up. They would like to get this recorded within the next 2 weeks, so if you are able to help or know someone who is, please let Kate know. Please note that you will need to get the permission from the two people being recorded.

Legislation update: Children (Equal Protection From Assault) (Scotland) Act 2019
You may be aware that new legislation, Children (Equal Protection from Assault) (Scotland) Act 2019, came into force on 7 November 2020. The Act removes the common law defence of ‘reasonable chastisement’ and gives all children in Scotland the same protection in law from assault as adults. This is very much in keeping with the UNCRC which has also been formally adopted by the Scottish Government.
This new law will have an impact on our work with children and families across the Renfrewshire Child Protection Partnership. To assist colleagues in understanding the impact on their role a new short e-learning module has been developed. This will take you through the main points arising from the legislation and how this will be implemented within Renfrewshire. There will also be optional training delivered through MS teams for those staff who prefer that style of learning and a flyer for the April, May, June 2021 dates will be circulated shortly
Also attached is a procedural guidance, including a flow chart which will help professionals in their work as well as a separate information leaflet advising parents and carers of these changes which we hope you will be able to circulate to parents/carers you have contact with.
