Excited to create spaces for conversations by diverse groups

I am excited to join ENGAGE as the In Ren Network Officer. As the name implies, I will be creating the space for engaging and networking between different groups across Renfrewshire and beyond. I come with multiple transferable skills from various roles in the charity and international development sector. In my previous roles, I have engaged with some of the networks I will be working with and I look forward to hearing more about the amazing work they have been doing. I am also eager to see where our conversations take us on this journey.

In the ever changing world we live in, it’s important that the diverse communities that make up Renfrewshire are equally represented, given a voice and have opportunities to participate in decisions that affect them. The diverse ethnic minority groups in the community are not a homogenous group and it’s important that conversations take this into consideration to ensure no one is left behind. There is a lot to learn and gain from tapping into the different cultural backgrounds that make up the representative groups.

I realise that this will entail having some difficult conversations but it’s important that we do not invariably exclude some voices by shying away from them. Further, it is important to highlight the need for empathy and compassion as we navigate this journey of ensuring equal opportunities, diversity and inclusion in the community.
